The Joy That Comes From Showing Up For Your People
When Rachelâs not coaching working moms or listening to an infinite soundtrack of podcasts, sheâs hanging out along with her 8 and 5 yr old daughtersâ"who rock her world. When she told her older daughter, Jane, that she was a coachâ"explaining that different working mothers tell her their hopes and desires and she or he helps them make their goals come true, Jane seemed her useless in the eyes and said, âMom, thatâs not a job.â Since then, Jane has realized that ladies and mothers can run their own profitable companies and that individuals can change their careersâ"even at 40 (which to Jane is very, very old)! Rachel is most herself when sheâs connecting people to each other, to things, to no matter they could need and consequentlyâ"she is the Kevin Bacon of her group. Her pals affectionately name this phenomenon, âThe Rachel Garrett Explosion.â Rachel lives along with her husband and daughters in Park Slope, Brooklyn and is a proud lifelong New Yorker. The Joy Th at Comes From Showing Up For Your People One of my dearest friends premiered her film on the Tribeca Film Festival last weekâ"and I was there to absorb the moment. Sitting alongside my co-cheerleaders in the audience, we held onto one another and watched our woman shine on a panel of women filmmakers as we now have accomplished at all the screenings, fundraisers, focus groups and award ceremonies for the past 20+ years. Bearing witness to my palâs optimism, resilience and dogged persistence in an industry thatâs solely beginning to acknowledge the expertise, worth and contribution of women, leaves me with a coronary heart filled with gratitude to be on this journey alongside her. It has been a highway crammed with each disappointment and accolades, but being thereâ"on each ends of the spectrumâ"is what makes the reward that a lot sweeter for everyone. Itâs a counterintuitive lesson in life, but Iâve discovered that somehow, itâs easier to indicate up for friends in the course of the hard times. We spring into a ction, name in our resources and project handle the shit out of a crisis. We often really feel extra susceptible displaying up for the highs and Iâve taken notice of these associates whoâve been there for me. In the audience once I was singing my coronary heart out in my twenties. Peppered alongside the NYC marathon route with indicators, households and protection from the wind. Front row at my first talks and workshops after my profession transition. Itâs not at all times simple to be there. It takes: Saying yes after which rearranging your life logistics to make it so. Confidence in your personal successes and progress in your path. Freedom from comparisons and judgment. But what I continue to study from exhibiting up for my individuals and being supported by them is that whereas we're all on our own distinctive paths, our momentum, our resilience and our pleasure is collective. We really feel it exponentially when it is shared. And it's not about critique or validation. Bei ng there's about making people feel truly seenâ¦and liked. I'm a coach, a spouse, a life-lengthy Joni Mitchell fan, and a individuals connector, however by far the job Iâm most proud ofâ"is being a mom to my two daughters, Jane and Roxanne. I offer Career and Leadership Coaching to women after the life-altering and thoughts-blowing milestone of becoming a mother. By partnering with women to extra intently align their lives with their values, passions and strengths, I assist them really feel completed and assured in each profession and motherhood.
